Have you ever wanted to make an
Heirloom Mohair Teddy Bear
to
pass on to your children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren . . .
or for your own enjoyment???
Is offering open workshops to teach you the
Techniques for creating Heirloom Mohair Teddy Bears
Bear Artist Armella Dana
Has won four International Crystal Awards, many Medals,
And numerous Blue Ribbons for her artistic creations,
In the form of mohair teddy bears.
In her workshops, you will pick from one of her many bear patterns and receive detailed instruction on the proper steps to producing a teddy that will withstand the generations. You will also be taught the special techniques gathered and developed by Armella over about twenty years of creating artist teddy bears.
All of the materials for making your teddy will be provided in a kit for which you will select the type and color of mohair fabric, color of paws, size and color of eyes, and color of nose. All of the tools for birthing your bear will be available for you to use in class. If you prefer to do some of the gestation outside of the workshop, tools are available for purchase. Your workshop will meet once a week for four hours and cost $20 for each workshop session attended. You may attend every week, or as your schedule allows. Workshops are limited to 8 enrolled students at any time.
•
When do workshops meet? The morning workshop meets Wednesday mornings; 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
•
Where do we meet? In the basement studio of Bears ‘n Buds by Armella, 2975 Silver Oak Trail, Marion, Iowa. Enter the driveway, follow the sidewalk around the east side of the house to the back yard. Enter studio through the first set of French doors.

•
When does the next workshop begin? Your workshop begins the first Wednesday morning you want to start learning the art of the teddy bear. You and I will arrange to meet prior to your first class so that you can have my full attention when selecting your bear pattern and mohair.
•
What is the cost? $20 each workshop day you attend, plus the cost of your kit (patterns and materials you will require).
•
How much do the kits of materials and parts to create a bear cost? The price of a kit to complete one bear depends on the size of the bear you select and the choices you make for the mohair fabric, the paw fabric, and the type and color of the eyes. Kits begin at about $45, but few are more than $100.
•
How often do I need to attend workshop days? You may work at your own pace and attend workshop days only when you need instruction, or do all of your teddy birthing in the classroom. All patterns, materials, and tools are available for purchase for anyone wanting to do some work at home. Tools need not be purchased if all work is done in class, as tools are available for use while students work in the classroom.
•
What do I need to bring with me to my workshop? You do not need to bring anything. But if you prefer to use some of your own, familiar, sewing supplies and tools, rather than those available in the classroom, here is a list of some of the items you will be using: short blade sewing scissors, craft scissors, sewing needles in all sizes and lengths to 10", thimble (if you usually sew with one), long steel pins, Aleene's Thick Tacky Glue, pencil, whiteout pen, fine-tip black Sharpie, small needle nose pliers, and ruler. You may bring a sewing machine, if you prefer to sew by machine (which is how I sew my bears), rather than by hand (no sewing will be done the first day of your workshop). Definitely bring your smile and plan to have a lot of fun!!
•
How many bears may I birth? Once you are registered, you may continue to make as many bears or buddies as you wish. As your skill grows, you may want to attempt more complicated critters with more difficult techniques.
